In the Thousand Islands-Seaway region, Boldt Castle on Heart Island, a 120-room Rhineland-style island castle built at the turn-of-the 20th century, is accessible by tour boat, water taxi or private watercraft. Also in the region, Singer Castle, a Scottish-inspired castle located on a 7-acre island in the St. Lawrence River, boasts 28 rooms, a 5-story clock tower, four-story boat house, heated squash court, pergola, and rose garden, as well as hidden passageways into almost every room and outbuilding.

In the Hudson Valley, Lyndhurst is a Gothic revival mansion and National Historic Site on 67 acres along the Hudson River featuring gardens, a greenhouse, and carriage house.

On Long Island, Oheka Castle is a breathtakingly beautiful historic mansion located on the famed Gold Coast between New York City and The Hamptons.

While visiting Governors Island off the tip of Manhattan in New York Harbor, visitors can admire Castle Williams -- not a castle of the romantic variety, but a circular defensive work of red sandstone designed and erected between 1807 and 1811.
