Ashokan Rail Trail

Details

The Ashokan Rail Trail is an 11.5 mile multi use public recreational trail alongside the northern edge of the Ashokan Reservoir on what used to be the Ulster Delaware Railroad originally constructed in the 1820’s. The route spans protected wetlands, a 525-foot boardwalk and crosses the 2,850-foot long, 60-foot tall Glenford Dike, completed in 1912 to allow passage of trains bringing supplies and tourists to and from New York City via the railroad. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and the nearly 123 billion-gallon reservoir while riding, walking, running or hiking.
