An official Path Through History Site! A place for answers and questions about Rome's past, present and future to be discovered. Founded in 1936, the Rome Historical Society is committed to preserving and interpreting local and regional history. Headquartered in a former 20th century post office, the society oversees an important collection of historical records and artifacts, and operates a museum in the former William E. Scripture Memorial Library. The organization also maintains the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier, The Lower Landing site (used by early traders), and Fort Bull, the site of a French and Indian War fortification.
