Iconic Hudson Valley Suspension Bridge Will Celebrate 100 Years of Service on November 27, 2024

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a slate of events to countdown to the upcoming centennial of the Bear Mountain Bridge, the Hudson River’s first vehicular crossing south of Albany. Activities between now and November include an online pop-up shop, guided hiking tours, an art workshop, an international engineering conference, and a dedication ceremony.

Guided Hikes, Events and Community Activities 

Lake Placid, NY (June 12, 2024) – The Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) continues its 100th anniversary celebration with a series of hikes, exhibitions, community celebrations, and other events throughout the summer. Adirondack Hamlets to Huts and ADKX, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, are offering guided hikes, exhibits and information sessions for community members and visitors.

Governor Kathy Hochul today encouraged New York residents and visitors to start summer early by visiting a State Park, beach or Historic Site this Memorial Day weekend. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is celebrating the New York State Parks Centennial with many programs and events to bring people together, enjoy the vast natural resources across the state, and honor the system’s important legacy. The weekend also marks the 20th anniversary of the Bethpage Airshow at Jones Beach State Park.

East Aurora, NY—As the world observes the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, a pivotal moment in Indigenous history will be celebrated and honored at the Friends of Knox Farm State Park EAclipse Celebration.

Approximately 800 years ago, during a total solar eclipse, the Great Law of Peace was formed, creating the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Ticket holders at the EAclipse event will be able to enjoy a unique blend of live performances, teachings, and powerful Indigenous-produced sound scores centered around the theme of connectivity to the natural world and the creation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

Lake Placid, NY (March 14, 2024) – The Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024 with a newly-developed website and a series of events throughout the summer and fall. The Northville-Placid Trail was formed in 1922 as one of the Adirondack Mountain Club’s first projects. Completed in 1924, this 138-mile route transverses the Adirondack Park, from the town of Northville to Lake Placid. 

To celebrate the 100-year anniversary, organizers are planning community events throughout the year along the trail route.
