Free Public Event Honoring Long Island’s Vietnam & Korean War Veterans

Farmingdale, NY (July 8, 2024) – On Saturday, August 3, 2024, American Airpower Museum and Honor Flight Long Island will co-host a patriotic reunion of 41 Vietnam War and five Korean War veterans.  On May 4, 2024, Honor Flight escorted this band of brothers on an early a.m. flight to Washington, D.C.  Veterans and their Guardians visited WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery for a “Changing of the Guard,” plus took a Washington, D.C. bus tour.

Jamesport, NY (July 1, 2024) ---The Board of Directors of the Jamesport Meeting House today announced it is organizing an Historic Jamesport House Tour for Saturday, September 14, 2024. The tour – last held in 2011 and back by popular request – offers a look beyond the front doors and garden gates of homes in Jamesport with historical and architectural significance. Also on the tour will be the Jamesport Meeting House erected in 1731 and today is the oldest public building on the East End of Long Island.

Display Lights Up the Sky Over Long Island's Popular Oceanfront Destination 

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the fireworks display at Jones Beach State Park will again take place on Independence Day, July 4, illuminating the sky at Long Island's popular oceanfront park. The Jovia Financial Credit Union Fireworks Spectacular at Jones Beach is a 25-minute celebration in colors that will dazzle and delight all ages.

Swim Across America - Long Island Sound is one of the nation’s largest open water swims and has raised more than $25 million for New York Area Cancer Institutions

Long Island, N.Y. - Swim Across America - Long Island Sound is holding its 32nd annual open water swim on Saturday, July 27, 2024, with more than 800 swimmers and volunteers all making waves to fight cancer. The swim offers four swim distances: a 10k across Long Island Sound, a 5k and 2k point-to-point swim that dives in at the Larchmont Yacht Club and ends at the Larchmont Shore Club, and a ½-mile pool swim at the Larchmont Shore Club.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of a new Visitor Center, improved parking and enhanced exhibits at Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park on the South Shore of Long Island. The new 1,600 square-foot Visitor Center will educate visitors about the Cutting family and their historic 60-room, Tudor-style mansion, the landscaped grounds with wide variety of trees, shrubs and plants, and the impact of ongoing climate change on Long Island.

Free Concert to be preceded by awarding of Ten Thousand Dollars in Music and Performing Arts Scholarships to High School students from across Long Island

Stony Brook, NY — The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) will hold a free concert entitled “Beatles on the Balcony” featuring The Liverpool Shuffle (a popular Long Island based Beatles tribute band) on June 30^th starting at 3pm at LIMEHOF’s Stony Brook museum location (97 Main Street, Stony Brook, NY).

Farmingdale, NY – This Memorial Day Weekend kicks off the American Airpower Museum’s summer with our “Legends of Airpower WWII Warbirds,” and their performance in the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Jones Beach Air Show.  AAM’s legendary warbirds including the WWII B-25 Mitchell bomber, North American P-51D Mustang, Grumman TBM-3E Avenger Torpedo Bomber, and Curtiss P-40M Warhawk “Flying Tiger,” will take to the skies over Republic Airport on Friday, May 24th, (practice day) plus Saturday to Sunday, May 25th/26th, for the Jones Beach Air Show.

Oyster Bay, NY (May 9, 2024) – Following this year’s Memorial Day parade in Oyster Bay hamlet on Monday, May 27, starting at 10:30 am along South Street, Raynham Hall Museum will present a celebration as part of Blue Star Museums, a program offering free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families this summer from Armed Forces Day, May 18, through Labor Day, September 2, 2024.
