NYS Parks Recreation Historic Preservation logoOver 5,000 Volunteers Pitch in at Over 140 Events

Albany, N.Y. – More than 120 New York State parks, historic sites and public lands are hosting volunteer events this weekend, Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, as part of the tenth annual I Love My Park Day. I Love My Park Day, organized by the statewide nonprofit Parks & Trails New York is a popular statewide event that improves and enhances New York’s beloved outdoor spaces, while bringing visibility to the entire state park system, and its needs. More than 5,000 volunteers are expected to roll up their sleeves on cleanup, improvement, and beautification projects. 

Wild Center logoProvides one-of-a-kind outdoor-only experience

Tupper Lake, N.Y. – Following its annual month-long closure for spring cleaning, The Wild Center is excited to reopen on Sat., May 1, 2021. As a continued commitment to the health and safety of visitors, staff and the wider community, the nature-based science center will be operating as an outdoor-only experience for the time being. In addition, they will maintain their enhanced operational procedures and cleaning protocols including timed ticket reservations, limited capacity and the use of face coverings.

Rail ExplorersCooperstown, NY (April 29, 2021) - Rail Explorers, featuring custom built pedal-powered rail bikes will begin operation of their fourth location, the new Cooperstown Division, on Saturday, May 29. The Rail Explorers Cooperstown Division features tours along the historic Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad which follows the beautiful Susquehanna River. Rail Explorers Cooperstown is hosted by the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad and is based in the restored Milford Depot in Milford, New York.

Quest for Speed ExhibitionClayton, NY (April 27, 2021) – The Antique Boat Museum (ABM), North America’s premier freshwater boating museum based in Clayton, NY, opens for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 1 and will remain open six days a week, 9 am-5 pm, through Columbus Day.  The Museum is closed Wednesdays.  After Columbus Day, the Museum will be open weekends, 9 am-5 pm, through October 31.  The Museum Store will also open Saturday, May 1 and admission is not required to shop the Store.

Individuals, families, groups, and organizations are invited to adopt a section of the 450-mile NYS Canalway Water Trail from May through October.

Last year, the sister property to the nearby AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa, entered the great unknown as did all resort operators, with nary a single notion as to what was about to occur.
