Connetquot River State Park Preserve maintains the lands and waters of the park for the protection and propagation of game birds, fish and animals. Deer and waterfowl are numerous, rare nesting birds, including the osprey, are present and there are numerous rare plants, such as trailing arbutus and pixie moss in their natural habitats. The preserve also has 50 miles of hiking, horseback bridle paths, cross-country ski, birding and nature trails, as well as fly fishing on the Connetquot River and a trout hatchery. Tours of its 18th-century grist mill and main house are by appointment.
