Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY – After a very successful pilot program in the Fall, the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s new Homeschool Naturalist series for children ages 6-10 is offering a winter session. Located at the Nature Museum’s Wildlife Education Center (25 Boulevard, Cornwall-on-Hudson) this 9-week series, which begins Tuesday, January 5 and meets once a week from 9am-1pm provides children the opportunity to explore, play, and learn in the forest.

Snowmobile Safety Courses Remain Available

Sledders Reminded To Use COVID-19 Safety Measures at Trailheads, During Breaks

At the start of snowmobiling season, New York State urges riders to keep safety in mind, both when operating and during any breaks with fellow riders.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, snowmobile safety courses continue to be offered. Successful completion of this course, results in the issuance of a NYS Snowmobile Safety Certificate.

This certificate is required for youth between ages 10 and 18 to operate a snowmobile, but all riders can benefit from taking a course that provides fundamental information which all should possess to ensure the safety of both rider and other trail users.

Hudson NY — Olana is celebrating the Winter Solstice this weekend with several seasonal onsite and virtual events developed by The Olana Partnership. Join us on Saturday, December 19 for activities to enjoy in the park or from the comfort of home.

Glens Falls, N.Y. – The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls will temporarily pause public visits to its galleries, exhibits, and historic home beginning Monday, January 4, 2021. It will open its doors to the public again on Saturday, May 1, 2021, with a blockbuster exhibition, The Very Best of The Hyde.
 
The rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, predicted to continue this winter and early spring, led to the decision. “Our first and most pressing priority always is to protect our staff and visitors,” said Hyde Chief Executive Officer Norman E. Dascher, Jr.
 
The Hyde will undertake internal improvement and maintenance projects during the period and its offices will remain open, though with reduced hours and staff. Some employees will be furloughed, others will work on limited schedules. The Hyde continues to reduce its operating expenses in response to declines in revenue cause by COVID-related limitations on exhibitions, programs and visits since March.

Orange County Tourism and Film Office launch new site with enhanced capabilities

Orange County, N.Y. (December 16, 2020) – The Orange County Office of Tourism & Film announced today the launch of a redesigned website that offers new capabilities and a more visually appealing layout. The all new orangetourism.org was created by the collaboration of a dynamic, marketing savvy tourism team and the award winning, marketing and public relations firm, Focus Media.

HRM Joins 13 Museums Across the Country in Emergency COVID-19 Grants

Yonkers, NY—Hudson River Museum is honored to announce an award of $200,000 in operating support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the nation’s largest funder of the arts and humanities. This support of the HRM comes from Mellon’s Art Museum Futures Fund, a COVID-19 relief initiative created to help sustain art and cultural institutions with immediate funding as they adapt to unprecedented financial obstacles posed by the global pandemic. The goal of the fund is to recognize visionary leadership, distinctive collections, and commitment to community, as well as historically overlooked artists and histories.

Partnership is for Building Capacity, Creating Sustainability, Growing Accessibility

Initiative will focus on Center's oral history collection

Bethel, NY (December 14, 2020) – The Museum at Bethel Woods, located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, has been selected to participate in The Museum Association of New York’s (MANY) “Building Capacity, Creating Sustainability, Growing Accessibility,” an IMLS CARES Act grant project designed to help museums impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Museum at Bethel Woods is one of 98 museums from across New York State participating.

Albany, NY – The 2020 Pine Bush Perspectives juried photo exhibit is currently on display along the outdoor StoryWalk® path behind the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Discovery Center located at 195 New Karner Road in Albany. “A StoryWalk® is usually a children's book that is deconstructed and the pages are laminated. The pages of the book are then posted along a trail so that people read the story as they are walking along the trail,” explained Jackie Citriniti, Lead Educator and show designer. “We’re using it a little differently this winter”, she continued. “Previous Pine Bush Perspectives exhibits have been inside the Discovery Center, but due to limited hours and capacity we decided to move the exhibit outside and online.”…

Lynne Sachs: Between Thought and Expression coincides with the Virtual Cinema release of her new feature “Film About a Father Who”

New York, New York — Mixing documentary and experimental modes of filmmaking, the Brooklyn-based filmmaker Lynne Sachs has produced a celebrated body of work that spans more than 30 years. In her earliest films, she experimented with classical avant-garde techniques to explore both the body and the material of film itself; in recent years, Sachs has incorporated live performance and observational documentary to address personal and historical experiences—all while looking at the world through a feminist lens. Museum of the Moving Image will present the 20-film retrospective Lynne Sachs: Between Thought and Expression from January 13 through 31, 2021. The career-ranging survey, all presented online, will include Sachs’s acclaimed new film Film About a Father Who, which opens in MoMI’s Virtual Cinema on January 15.
