Staatsburgh’s popular “The REAL Gilded Age: America’s Elite in the Downton Abbey Era” and “A Life in Service” theme tours, offered this March, will explore two separate topics of Gilded Age history.

Old Fort Niagara - Winter Survival DemoYoungstown, N.Y. – On Saturday, February 15, Old Fort Niagara invites visitors to discover how people in colonial times survived and thrived during the winter months. Winter Warriors is an interactive living history program that teaches visitors valuable winter survival skills, such as how to build a campfire using flint and steel, construct a brush shelter, trek over the snow using snowshoes and employ natural fibers like wool to keep warm.

Americana CornerAmericana Corner grant allows Fort Ticonderoga to tell signature 250th stories

Ticonderoga, N.Y. - Fort Ticonderoga is thrilled to announce a five-year expansion of our weapons demonstrations and signature living history events through the Guns for Ticonderoga project funded by Americana Corner. 

Thanks to the generous support of Americana Corner, Fort Ticonderoga has embarked on recreating two complete American artillery pieces with cannon, carriages, inert reproduction ammunition, and the implements Continental Army artillerymen employed with these guns.

Featuring a reading from the picture book, Punxsutawney Phyllis, children will gain some knowledge about the natural science behind the groundhog’s weather forecast.

January 18, 2025 Living History EventThis REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ living history event recreates wintertime life for Fort Ticonderoga’s guard of British soldiers and their families

Ticonderoga, NY (January 6, 2025) – Fort Ticonderoga invites history buffs and families alike to step back in time with a special REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ living history event “Necessary for the Rigour of the Climate” on January 18, 2025, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This immersive experience will transport visitors to a pivotal moment in the American Revolution. Highlighted programming will recreate wintertime life for Fort Ticonderoga’s guard of British soldiers and their families, who made their homes inside the fort’s barracks.

Twelfth Night CakeRensselaer, N.Y. – On Saturday, January 4, 2025, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site will welcome visitors for its annual Twelfth Night Celebration, “Salutations of the Season!” From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the site will host an open house filled with 18th century holiday fare, live music, bonfires (weather permitting!), period reenactors, and wassail toasts.
