LGBTQ+ Community Invited to Two-Day Event at Belleayre Mountain in The Catskills

Albany, N.Y. – A new event in 2024 will add wintertime wonder to the roster of activities available to LGBTQ+ residents and travelers in New York State. The Capital Region’s first-ever Pride Ski Weekend will be held January 20 – 21 at Belleayre Mountain, featuring two fabulous days of slope-side fun for the LGBTQ+ community.

Lake Placid, N.Y. – There have been few, if any other Olympic Winter Games that have rivaled the enduring legacy of Lake Placid and 1980. So many moments are forever etched into our memories and on Tuesday, Feb. 18, many of those memories and perhaps new ones will be celebrated during the Dream On, The 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Figure Skating Reunion Gala. Presented by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) the unforgettable evening begins at 7 p.m., with a special dinner, followed by the show at 8 p.m., in the Olympic Center.

Canandaigua, N.Y. (January 30, 2020) – The snowmaking crew from Bristol Mountain, N.Y., emerged as the winner in this year’s HKD Snowmakers and Ski Area Management Magazine “I AM a Snowmaker” nationwide contest. The seven finalists in the 2020 I AM a Snowmaker contest were: Aspen Snowmass, Colo.; Bristol Mountain, N.Y.; Eaglecrest Ski Area, Alaska; Gunstock, N.H.; Hunter Mountain, N.Y.; Killington Resort, Vt.; and Pats Peak, N.H. Each snowmaking crew created a compelling storytelling video for the contest, and the public voted for their favorite.

Lake Placid Celebrates 40^th Anniversary of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games February 13-23, 2020

Lake Placid, N.Y. – On February 18, 2020, members of the 1980 Olympic Figure Skating Team return to the Lake Placid Olympic Center and Olympic Oval to celebrate the 40^th anniversary of the XIII Olympic Winter Games. 

Olympic 1984 gold medalist and 1980 Team USA Olympic Flag Bearer, Scott Hamilton will host the day’s events that start with a 10 a.m. press-breakfast at the Convention Center. This is followed by a 3 p.m. charity skate-a-thon and culminating with an evening gala and dinner at 7 p.m. and show in the Olympic Center, at 8 p.m.

Mannsville, NY (January 9, 2020) - Celebrating its 10th year anniversary, the Stone Wall Snowshoe Event on January 26, 2020, is a NOT TO MISS winter event, right here on the Tug Hill. The Lake Placid Olympic legacy will be front and center during a weeklong celebration beginning February 14

Lake Placid, NY – Forty years ago this February, the Adirondack village of Lake Placid hosted the 13th Olympic Winter Games. The heroics of the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team’s improbable win over the Russians, known as the “Miracle on Ice,” and speed skater Eric Heiden’s five gold medals helped make the 1980 Lake Placid Games one for the ages, one with an enduring legacy.

The 40th anniversary of the 1980 Winter Games presents the perfect opportunity to celebrate Lake Placid’s rich Olympic legacy - past, present and future. From February 14 - 23, the two-time Olympic village is rolling out the welcome mat and is hosting a full slate of activities that will embody the Olympic spirit - from re-living the opening ceremony and torch lighting, ice skating around the historic Olympic Oval, to skiing with Olympic athletes.
