$1.2 Million Project Will Improve 2.5 Miles of the Erie Canalway Trail in the Mohawk Valley

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is rehabilitating a 2.5-mile section of the Empire State Trail from the City of Little Falls to Herkimer Home State Historic Site, in Herkimer County. The trail segment is also part of the Erie Canalway Trail.

"The Empire State Trail is the ideal destination to enjoy our state's scenic beauty and extraordinary history, and we are continuing to invest in making the trail even more inviting for healthy outdoor activities," Governor Hochul said. "Outdoor recreation is a big economic engine for our state, and for countless vendors along the trail's path who rely on the tourism year-round, and projects like this help to ensure the long-term vitality of our regional economies."…

New Paltz, N.Y. – Historic Huguenot Street presents chamber ensemble Hudson Valley Baroque in a concert featuring music of Elizabeth Jaquet de la Guerre (1665 - 1729), Antonio Vivaldi (1768 - 1741), Jean-Baptiste Loeillet (1680 - 1730), Alessandro Scarlatti (1660 - 1725), and Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (1674 - 1763).  The ensemble members are Joël Evans (oboe, SUNY New Paltz Music Department faculty), Gregory Bynum (recorder, SUNY New Paltz School of Education faculty), Susan Seligman (cello, SUNY New Paltz Music Department faculty), and Ruthanne Schempf (harpsichord, SUNY New Paltz Music Department Faculty). The concert will take place Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Month-long harvest celebration kicks off in October

New York, New York, September 21, 2021 — The major exhibition Envisioning 2001: Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey, which explores the making of the visionary 1968 sci-fi masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, will be extended for three additional weekends, closing on Sunday, October 17, it was announced today by Museum of the Moving Image. In addition, the accompanying Complete Kubrick film retrospective will be also extended, culminating with the films A Clockwork Orange, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year; Barry Lyndon; the 2020 documentary Kubrick by Kubrick; and added screenings of 2001: A Space Odyssey, including select 70mm presentations.

Oswego, New York — The National Park Service invites public input on a special resource study focusing on Fort Ontario in Oswego, New York, which was a British and American military installation from the mid-18th century to the end of World War II.

Since 1946, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation has owned and managed the central fort complex known as Fort Ontario State Historic Site. The National Park Service’s special resource study will assess how cultural and natural resources associated with the fort’s long history meet criteria to be recommended for designation as a unit of the National Park System. A 60-day comment period runs through November 1, 2021.

New Website with Water Release Schedule Launched

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the New York State Canal Corporation is again increasing regulated water releases from the Erie Canal into Lake Ontario tributaries in Western New York this fall to extend fishing opportunities and enhance world-class fishing destinations. Now in its second year, the pilot program through the New York Power Authority's Reimagine the Canals initiative is improving spawning conditions and enhancing angling opportunities in Monroe, Orleans, and Niagara counties -an effort that helps to increase tourism and bolster local businesses.
