New health and safety measures in place, including timed ticketing and online auctions, to bring the holidays back to the museum 

Rochester, N.Y. — The George Eastman Museum plans to bring its annual Sweet Creations gingerbread display back for 2020. The exquisite show of more than 40 cleverly designed and deliciously decorated gingerbread creations­ will open to the public on November 6 and will remain on view through December 13. The museum is making a few changes to its holiday traditions this year to ensure the health and safety of its guests, including timed ticketing, extended hours, and a virtual silent auction.

A Patriotic Service: Sarah Pell’s Enduring Legacy

Ticonderoga, N.Y. – Fort Ticonderoga recently launched a new online digital exhibition entitled “A Patriotic Service: Sarah Pell’s Enduring Legacy.”  The digital exhibition is an exciting and important addition to the museum’s  Center for Digital History. The exhibit focuses on museum co-founder Sarah Gibbs Thompson Pell. Using recently cataloged museum artifacts, integrated with our Online Collections Database, visitors can explore Sarah's life and her work connecting Ticonderoga's historic legacy to the struggle to achieve equality.

Annual Halloween Week Observance of Bat Week Raises Awareness to Reduce Human Disturbance to Threatened Bats

In observance of Bat Week, an internationally recognized weeklong focus to raise awareness about the important role bats play in our environment, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today urged outdoor adventurers to avoid visiting caves and mines that may serve as seasonal homes for hibernating bats. Human disturbance is especially harmful to the State's bat populations since the arrival of the disease known as white-nose syndrome, a fungus that has killed more than 90 percent of bats at hibernation sites in New York.

DEC Encourages Anglers to Fish 'SMART' to Protect Resources and Other Anglers

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced that the Lower Fly-Fishing Section of the Salmon River will be open for catch-and-release fishing starting Saturday, Oct. 31, marking the success of actions taken by the Salmon River Flow Management Team to mitigate the impacts of low-water flows at the start of the salmon run. Recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 remain in effect to ensure the health and safety of the public.

Customers can bring their bikes for their off-train adventures for only $20

Washington, D.C. – Amtrak has expanded its Carry-on bike program for most Northeast Regional departures, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, allowing customers to store their bike inside of the passenger coach in a designated space. In addition, Amtrak has worked with its various Northeast state partners to offer the program on its State-Supported trains. This includes working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for Keystone Service, the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) for Downeaster trains and the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) for Amtrak Hartford Line trains beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Adirondacks, U.S.A. - With changes to Halloween schedules this year, Tri-Lakes communities will deliver drive-in movies for families, children, ghosts, and goblins of all ages.

In Saranac Lake, Hotel Transylvania will be shown on Friday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. "The Chamber is excited to support this free, family event. With limited family offerings for Halloween this season, we are pleased to see this fun event come together for the entire family to enjoy," said Patrick Murphy, Director of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. The screen will be at the Lake Flower Plaza (former Tops Shopping Center next to Coakley). The movie is presented by the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) with support from the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Admission is free.

Fourth annual show reflects diversity of work by artists representing all six Haudenosaunee Nations

Victor, N.Y.—Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) artists residing throughout the United States and Canada have come out in record numbers to participate in Ganondagan’s fourth annual juried Hodinöhsö:ni’ Art Show to take place virtually on Friday, November 6 through December 31, 2020.

This year, works by 43 artists were accepted in the competitive show, representing all six Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Nations: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora.
