With that, Friends of Ganondagan announces the call for entries for its fourth annual juried Hodinöhsö:ni’ Art Show to take place virtually beginning Friday, November 6 through December 31, 2020.

Immersive tour NOW OPEN to the public

Bethel, NY (August 31, 2020) – The Museum at Bethel Woods, located at the National Register historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, today announced a new augmented reality tour, Meet Me at Woodstock.  The immersive tour gives guests the chance to experience the history of the festival first-hand as they listen to stories of those who were there, visualize the iconic stage, hear concert recordings and authentic announcements, and survey the grounds as a member of the 450,000 person crowd.

New Paltz, NY – As a part of the museum’s 2020 initiative to shed light on the history of women’s rights, Historic Huguenot Street will honor the stories and celebrate the lives of Native women in the larger narrative of our communities. “The Power of Native Women” is a three-part multimedia event: Visitors can choose to attend in person Saturday, September 19 from 4 to 6 PM; join the museum online for a live-streaming of the speakers that same evening; and also attend follow-up themed virtual sessions to learn more on special topics.

With new state-of-the-art Hall of Fame and multiple exhibit openings

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will reopen to the public on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. The Museum has been closed since January for the installation of a new state-of-the-art Hall of Fame experience as well as multiple new and updated exhibitions. The Museum has put in place a number of enhanced safety protocols in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is a Saratoga Cares Stay Safe Pledge institution with a commitment to the health of Saratoga County residents, workers, and visitors.

Staatsburg, N.Y. — Staatsburgh State Historic Site will present stories for children outdoors on the mansion’s front portico on Saturday afternoons at 3pm in September.  The 30-minute programs will feature stories from or about the Gilded Age.  Selections from stories by Beatrix Potter (the author of Peter Rabbit) will be offered for children ages 5 to 7 on September 5 and 12.  On September 19 and 26, selections from the story I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 by Lauren Tarshis will be offered for children ages 8 to 11.

Communal moviegoing at the popular Queens Drive-In continues alongside online Virtual Cinema…

East Meredith, N.Y. – Catskills Folk Connection will present an exhibit of local artists, “Folk Art in Wood,” on view by reservation at Hanford Mills Museum from Wednesday, September 2 through October 15. The exhibit features artists who work with wood in a wide variety of ways.

Joe Dibble carves decoys of water birds such as swans, geese, and ducks, plus wood carvings of trout and land birds. Gary Mead creates one-of-a-kind furniture from carefully selected wood, some of which he harvests and mills specifically for his projects. Kira Lendo creates pictures on wood, drawing wildlife and Catskills scenes with a wood burner. Joe Hewitt and Ken Etts know the secret of the “whistle stick”, a folk toy they make out of a notched stick and a small propeller, which reverses direction when they whistle.

Saratoga Springs, NY (August 25, 2020) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, in accordance with Skidmore College guidelines, will reopen for the fall semester for Skidmore students, faculty and staff only with limited hours and new protocols.

While the Museum building is closed to the public, the Tang continues to be open online for everyone. Since the COVID-19 closure started in March, the Tang has expanded its exhibitions online, opened new digital exhibitions, created a new page of at-home art-making activities, and presented many online programs that have included Tang at Home Studio family art-making projects, student musical, dance, and poetry performances, and special events with artists Tim Davis and Liz Collins, both celebrating the publication of their new exhibition catalogues.

Rochester, N.Y., August 25, 2020—The George Eastman Museum premiered Gathering Clouds: Photographs from the Nineteenth Century and Today on July 26 in the museum’s main galleries. Gathering Clouds illustrates the key role that clouds played in the development and reception of photography from around 1850 to 1920. Bringing cloud photography into the present by way of Alfred Stieglitz’s Equivalents (1923–34), the contemporary works in the exhibition forge new artistic paths while responding in various ways to the history of cloud photography. The exhibition features more than 100 photographs by 19th-century and contemporary artists. The exhibition is also available to view virtually with a 360 tour at eastman.org/clouds.
