An official Path Through History Site! Built between 1867 and 1899, the State Capitol, a National Historic Landmark, is a stunning example of 19th-century architecture, noted for intricate and elaborate carvings, and blending Renaissance, Romanesque, and French Renaissance Revival styles. Sitting majestically atop Albany's State Street hill, the New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880s. The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur, built under the direction of five architects, the Capitol was built by hand of solid masonry. It has been the seat of NYS government for more than a century and is associated with many important people and events in state and national history. The Official Online Store of the New York State Capitol is now live, offering New York themed souvenirs and one-of-a-kind gift items. Monday through Friday at 10 am, noon, and 2pm, take a 45-minute tour showcasing the legislative chambers, Hall of Governors, Governor’s Reception Room, Hall of New York, historic staircases, and carvings. Reservations are recommended as space is limited.
