Across New York, from the legendary Catskill Mountains to the shores of Great Lake Erie, you'll find wide-open trails, cool events, and warm welcomes. Travel the wild forested routes on the vast Tug Hill Plateau, covered with 200 to 300 inches of lake-effect snow every year. Explore more than 10,000 miles of trails, including 800 miles of groomed trails throughout the vast and scenic Adirondacks, from Speculator and Long Lake to Old Forge, known as the Snowmobile Capital of the East for more than 50 years. With snowmobiling trails all over the state, there's plenty of room for adventure.
Visitors to New York from out-of-state and Canada can enjoy two Free Snowmobile Weekends happening March 1-3 and March 8-10. New York State registration fees will be waived for all out-of-state snowmobilers (registered and insured in their home state or Province) for the promotional weekends. Visitors who wish to use a snowmobile in New York State before or after these promotional weekends can use the NYS Registration for Out-of-State Snowmobile service to get a 15-day registration and operate their snowmobile here immediately. DMV will send a permanent registration in the mail.
