Commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary in New York State

New York State History is America’s History

2026 officially marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. New York has played an immense and vital role in our country’s journey to independence – nearly a third of American Revolution battles were fought on New York soil – and the subsequent 250 years of American history. Throughout the state, historic sites, museums, battlefields, and attractions are opening their doors for a variety of events highlighting the revolutionary actions of New Yorkers, the innovations of our best and brightest, unparalleled arts and culture, those who bravely fought for equality, the beauty of our state’s natural history, and much more

Walk in the footsteps of those who fought at Fort Ticonderoga or in the Battle of Saratoga, learn the stories of the daring women of the resistance and brave soldiers–including those of color–who joined the fight for American freedom from colonial rule, or climb the steps of Federal Hall, where the first presidential inauguration took place. Whether it’s a look back to those early revolutionary moments or an exploration of the rich history of the trials and tribulations of our state as it grew alongside the country, there’s nowhere like the Empire State to commemorate America 250.

Historical attractions, sites, and other organizations in New York State can invite visitors to explore our collective history by submitting 250 Commemoration events to be featured on the calendar.
